RIGHT CAUSE SEVERS ITS RELATIONS WITH CHERNOMYRDIN

On August 21, Anatoly Chubais and Sergei Kirienko, leaders of the Right Cause movement, announced the breach of relations between their bloc and Our Home Is Russia.

Another political leader, who was expected to join the right-winged coalition too, is Sergei Stepashin. However, the former prime minister has chosen a political career of his own.

PUTIN MEETS WITH CHAIRMAN OF THE DAGESTANI COUNCIL OF MUFTIS

On August 21, Prime Minister Vladimir Putin met with Chairman of the Council of Dagestani Muftis Sheih Ravil Gainutdin. Their meeting was dedicated on possible ways of overcoming the current crisis in Dagestan.

Yevgeny Primakov still leads the presidential rating. If the presidential election were to take place this weekend, some 22% of the respondents would vote for him in the first tour. Gennady Zyuganov is supported by 16%. The third place belongs to Sergei Stepashin, who has for the first time outrun Yury Luzhkov. After the dismissal Stepashin’s rating grew by 3%. Moscow Mayor Yury Luzhkov has lost 2% of the vote, only 8% of the questioned would vote for him. Yabloko Chairman Grigory Yavlinsky is supported only by 5% of Russians.

Serious shifts are observed in the rating of political confidence. Some 35% of Russians share the perspectives of Yevgeny Primakov. For the first time for several months Gennady Zyuganov occupies the third position instead of the second. Sergei Stepashin has outrun the leader of the Communists, for his dismissal gave him additionally 4% of supporters. Currently, 19% of voters confide in Stepashin as a politician. Political viewpoints of Yury Luzhkov are supported by 14% of citizens, and Grigory Yavlinsky is the last in the top five of the list.

The poll was conducted in all regions of the Russian Federation.
