RUSSIAN TALIBAN CAPTURED IN AFGHANISTAN TO BE EXTRADITED TO RUSSIA
Izvestia (Moscow issue), July 29, 2003, p. 8
According to Deputy Foreign Minister Vyacheslav Tikhomirov, Moscow and Washington negotiate extradition of the citizens of the Russian Federation captured by the American troops in Afghanistan and currently imprisoned at the American base on Cuba. The dialogue is under way between the Prosecutor General’s Office and appropriate American structures. “There are lots of legal nuances to be addressed here,” Tikhomirov said. “The sooner we settle all these matters, the sooner we will get these men.”
SHAKHID WOMAN BLEW HERSELF UP NEAR AKHMAD KADYROV’S RESIDENCE
Izvestia (Moscow issue), July 29, 2003, p. 8
A shakhid woman tried to penetrate security of the residence of Akhmad Kadyrov in the settlement of Tsotsin-Yurt, yesterday.
“The building was guarded by a unit of Kadyrov’s personal security detail. Kadyrov himself is not presently in Chechnya,” a source in the prosecutor’s office of Chechnya said. “Bodyguards saw a woman approach the fence. She was challenged but refused to acknowledge. Several warning shots in the air were fired, and that’s when the explosion rocked the premises.”
The terrorist perished in the explosion, and a woman passing by sustained a fragmentation wound. Law enforcement agencies do not rule out the possibility that the shakhid was after Ramzan Kadyrov, the son of the acting head of Chechnya and commander of the security detail. He was in the yard with other bodyguards when the woman blew herself up.
