STEPASHIN WILL KEEP AN EYE ON RESTORATION OF CHECHNYA

According to Sergei Stepashin, his Auditing Commission will establish tight control over the use of the 400 million allocated by the federal budget for post-war restoration of Chechnya in 2003. Stepashin said that Auditing Commission auditors exposed misuse of 365 million worth of federal funds in Chechnya in 2002. “20 million was stolen. Alerted by our findings, the prosecutor’s office instigated four criminal proceedings. All of that cost the minister of culture of the government of Chechnya his post,” Stepashin said.

The Federal Border Guards Service has drafted an agreement on cooperation with Afghanistan in the sphere of border protection.

Lieutenant General Alexander Manilov, Chief of the Department of International Treaties of the Federal Border Guards Service: Two involved Afghani structures – the Interior Ministry and the Ministry of Borders – reiterate their readiness to sign the document. Official Kabul likes the border protection organization we suggest. That’s where matters stand for the time being.
