NATO BEGINS FULL-FLEDGED COOPERATION WITH RUSSIA

The North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) has begun full-fledged cooperation with Russia beyond the level of mere consultations, says a statement made following a closed-door meeting of NATO ambassadors. Russia will now have all rights in the process of determining NATO strategy.
ROBERTSON: RUSSIA IS A PARTNER

In his interview with the Lithuanian newspaper Lietuvos Ritas, NATO General Secretary George Robertson said that Russia is “the Alliance’s important strategic partner” and that “NATO expansion does not affect relations with Russia.”
Robertson was quoted as saying that NATO is a sovereign alliance and will make its own independent decisions on admission of new members.
