RUSSIAN PEACEKEEPERS MOVE ON

The meeting was a sort of demonstration of respect towards people who have agreed to support him in the parliamentary election. But Luzhkov is interested in the intentions of another potential ally, Yevgeny Primakov. His personality is so attractive that Luzhkov does not conceal that individual consultations are being held with him. Luzhkov refuted the rumors that Primakov has allegedly been asked to head the electoral list of Fatherland. Yury Luzhkov’s frequent meetings with Yevgeny Primakov concern pure politics.
Fatherland is prepared to coordinate its activities with any movement, even if it has some ideological disagreements with them. according to Yury Luzhkov, Fatherland will not ally only with parties of the radical left orientation.
STEPASHIN TO VISIT UKRAINE

Moscow and Kiev have a number of mutual problems. Resolution of the many disagreements between the two countries is connected with Stepashin’s visit to Ukraine. Stepashin intends to hold negotiations in Kiev and visit Sevastopol during the course of the current visit. The negotiating parties promise to work constructively, since they are to solve a lot of problems. Meanwhile, observers note the fact that the Ukrainian authorities have sharply changed their position towards Russia. Many political analysts explain this change by the upcoming presidential election in Ukraine, since Russia’s position will affect its outcome.
