Experts of the Central Design Bureau for Marine Engineering Rubin have completed the work on the project of raising fragments of the nuclear submarine Kursk’s front section, Interfax reports. In particular, the project examining the opportunity of raising fragments of the first compartment has been completed, Director General of Rubin Igor Spassky said on Monday. As Rubin’s head noted, “these fragments would allow ascertaining the process which was underway inside the submarine after the initial explosion.”

The definitive list of operations has been determined. Rubin bureau has done the investigation jointly with experts of Russia’s Navy. In alliance with representatives of industrial enterprises, the scientific research institute and the design bureau, the mariners will have to carry out an operation of raising the fragments of the first compartment.

The operation is scheduled for the summer of 2002. “No foreign companies and divers will be involved in it,” Igor Spassky noted.
