General Prosecutor Ustinov and Commander of the Navy Kuroedov announced the results of investigation of the Kursk disaster at the recent press conference in Murmansk. Investigators have not managed to figure out the cause of the disaster. According to Kuroedov, there are three main theories: a torpedo explosion, collision with another object, or the explosion of a mine. In the meantime, Ustinov said that “there were not any objects near the Kursk” when the tragedy happened. In other words, he hinted that a torpedo explosion has become the basic theory. Investigation on board the submarine has ended. According to Ustinov, logbooks and notes written by seamen do not shed light on the cause of the shipwreck.
Kuroedov said that the command of the Northern Fleet made crass mistakes when preparing for the exercise. However, the admiral is sure that these mistakes could not lead to such a disaster.
