The divers who will participate in raising the Kursk submarine from the bottom of the Barents Sea, an operation scheduled for summer and autumn, will start training soon. According to Viktor Ilyukin, deputy director of the Scientific Research Institute for Emergency, Rescue, and Diving, “overall, the training will correspond to the methods used during preparation for last year’s operation which recovered some bodies of crewmen.” The divers will practice procedures in special systems; some of which, on special stands, simulate the compartments of the nuclear-powered submarine. Some stands are placed at a depth of 100 meters or more.
