Helicopters of Russia holding, one of the international leaders of the helicopter-building industry, is actively working on creation of new models of helicopters for the Russian Armed Forces and on modernization of existing models. Director for state supply and military technological cooperation of Helicopters of Russia Vladislav Savelyev reports about the work done by the holding for the Defense Ministry and about the way in which cooperation with foreign customers is going on.

Question: When will the first series model of the newest Russian high-speed helicopter be ready? Does the Defense Ministry plan to receive its military version? If this is so, how many such helicopters does the Defense Ministry need? Which tasks will they fulfill?

Vladislav Savelyev: The program of creation of an advanced high-speed helicopter is at the stage of flight tests of the demonstrator for confirmation of flight technical characteristics and the main technical solutions. A complex of decisions about the ways of further implementation of new developments in the interests of the customer will be formed in the course of accumulation of scientific and technological preconditions. The quantity and the tasks to be fulfilled by high-speed helicopters are prerogative of the customer.

Question: At which stage is the work on advanced helicopter for the Russian navy? What will be its fundamental peculiarities? When will the first prototype of this helicopter be ready?

Vladislav Savelyev: Requirements of tremendous growth of combat efficiency, broadening of the spectrum of tasks to be fulfilled are set for the new generation of shipborne helicopters against the background of big universality and multifunctionality. First of all, this is expressed in standardization of the line of maritime helicopters.

Work on new helicopters for the Navy is going on in strict correspondence to technical requirements of the customer.

Question: With regard to shipborne helicopters Ka-52K, how many such helicopters are produced by now? It was reported that it was planned to put these helicopters on aircraft-carrier Admiral Kuznetsov. On which other Russian military ships is it planned to mount them?

Vladislav Savelyev: Four prototypes are made by now and their flight tests are underway. In the future, Ka-52K will be based, first of all, on antisubmarine ship and advanced helicopter-carriers.

Question: At which stage is the work on restarting of production of antisubmarine helicopters Mi-14?

Vladislav Savelyev: Technical specifications for Mi-14 helicopter are being currently corrected. Technical look of the helicopter and the time for restarting of the project will be determined in accordance with them.

Question: Will the holding modernize maritime helicopters Ka-27 and Ka-31? Which new capabilities will these helicopters acquire? What else does the holding do for the purpose of development and improvement of the fleet of helicopters for the Navy? Is development of fundamentally new maritime helicopters going on?

Vladislav Savelyev: Back in 2015, the Kumertau aviation production enterprise started work on deep modernization of helicopters of aviation of the navy. As a result, maritime aviation will receive an improved version of antisubmarine helicopters that can operate in a close-range sea zone. The modernized helicopter will receive a new radar and a system of radio technical reconnaissance, as well as a modernized hydroacoustic system.

Simultaneously, Helicopters of Russia holding is permanently working on creation of new helicopters in the interests of aviation of the Navy.

Question: Is work underway on further development of Mi-26 helicopters used in the Armed Forces? Has supply of Mi-26T2 for the Defense Ministry been started? If not, when can it begin?

Vladislav Savelyev: Work on further development of heavy Mi-26 is underway. The main requirements to the modernized helicopter are mounting of new piloting and navigation equipment, modernized on board defense system and implementation of other designer solutions. Supply of helicopters of Mi-26T2 to the Defense Ministry is planned starting from 2018.
