This is first visit of Nigerian President Olusegun Obasanjo, 64, to Russia.

A high-ranking official of the Russian Foreign Ministry says “Russia has resources now. It means it has the ability to realize an active policy on the continent.”

… with Premier Mikhail Kasyanov, Security Council Secretary Sergei Ivanov, and some ministers to discuss pending problems of domestic and foreign policy. In particular, Putin and Kasyanov discussed the results of the latter’s trip to South Korea and Vietnam and Kasyanov’s visit to Italy.

OSCE RETURNS TO CHECHNYA

Foreign Minister Igor Ivanov met with Alvaro Gil-Robles of the OSCE last Saturday. The problem of Chechnya was discussed.

The OSCE mission which left Chechnya in November 1999 will return with more of humanitarian aid, according to Gil-Robles.
