Specialists of the Northern Fleet and the Nerpa shipbuilding plant (Snezhnogorsk, the Murmansk region) have solved all technical problems and started disassembling the Kursk nuclear submarine’s two reactors. They have removed hardware from the reactor’s lid and poured out water, which transferred heat from the fuel rod array. Nuclear fuel is to be unloaded from the submarine by the end of the week. After that the fuel will be transported to the Mayak plant in the Chelyabinsk region by train.
