The Information Department of the Russian President has stated that the AMT Carrier barge carrying saws for the cutting and detachment of the first compartment from the Kursk submarine will leave the port on August 20. The department noted, “Everything is according to the schedule. Allegations that the operation will be delayed from a malfunction in the technological equipment are groundless.” The department has denied reports that a saw designed for separating the first compartment from the hull of the Kursk submarine had malfunctioned. Officials of the Information Department said: “Technological equipment for cutting off the first compartment is on board the AMT Carrier. The technology of this operation was prepared in Holland with the assistance of the Rubin design bureau. In addition, this technology has been tested.”

The Information Department noted that a complex of saws cut over one meter of metal constructions during four hours. Specialists stated, “The abrasive elements in the saws must be improved”. Four saws have been sent to Holland and one to Norway. Improved saws will be tested on the barge during August 17-18.
